Meet Ashu, a Project Manager in the Development team here at Edinburgh Analytical!

What does a typical day in your role look like?
I am an experimentalist, so my typical day starts with checking overnight experiment results. The best thing I like about my role is that every day is a new day with new challenges and exciting problems, which brings out the best in me. I am part of the development team, which consists of scientists, mechanical engineers, electronics engineers and software engineers. We work on the new products, and we support the existing products and provide help to the sales and operations team to ensure smooth functioning.
What has been your journey to get to where you are now?
I am from India and did my master’s in physics and Optics from there. Later on, I moved to Germany to do my PhD in lasers at the University of Regensburg. In 2008, I moved to Scotland to join the University of St Andrews as a research fellow. During my nearly 8 years of tenure there, I was involved in various exciting projects and got the opportunity to work with the FLSS980 spectrofluorometer. In 2015, I joined the Edinburgh Instruments development team and am pleased to see that DB30 and FES0 are already available for the customers.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I like reading or watching exciting documentaries. A few years ago, I got interested in cooking also, so I try new Indian recipes on weekends.
What was your first ever job?
In 2003, I started as a project engineer at a research institute in India, where I got the first glimpse of industry-focused research activities.
What is top of your bucket list?
I want to explore the natural wonders across the world.
Top 5 movies
I like to watch some old classic Bollywood movies.
